#dotdot is a matchmaking platform that enables the anonymous and secure P2P sharing of gigabytes of unused mobile internet access. To share your excess Gigabytes and become a “#doter”, you need to buy a « #dot » box, available from https://ShareYourGBs.com, and download the « #dotdot » app. Alternatively, if you wish to enjoy on demand internet connection via the « #dotdot » WiFi, and become a “#dotee”, all you have to do is download the #dotdot app (no need for a #dot box): then locate the #doters in your area. It’s easy: as soon as you see a WiFi named “#dotdot” in your settings, there are #doters within 100 meters!
– Yes, if you are more of a “#doter” and want to share your unused Gigabytes of internet access. You will also need to have downloaded the #dotdot app.
– No, if you are “#dotee” and just want on-demand internet access via the #dotdot WiFi network, without a subscription. In this case, all you need is your smartphone and the #dotdot app.
The maximum speed of a #dot is currently 15 Mbps (megabits per second). In practice, the speed of the #dotdot WiFi is highly dependent on that of the cellular network of the smartphone used by the #doter, as well as the number of #dotee’s connected to their #dot (limited to 3 at the moment). Bearing in mind that you can check your emails at 1 Mbps, watch a YouTube video in SD at 3 Mbps and a movie on Netflix in HD at 7 Mbps, the #dotdot network speed is generally sufficient for many uses.
Yes, #dotdot is designed with security in mind. By default, #dotdot WiFi has WPA2-AES encryption. The connection between doter and #dotee is based on a Zero-Trust procedure: #dotdot WiFi is in fact more secure than most public WiFi hotspots.
No data is shared between the #doter and the #dotee: the #dotee connects to the #doter’s hotspot, and the level of protection is therefore the same as for any shared connection.
The #dot contains a buffer battery that allows for continuous use for 24 hours. In intermittent use, i.e. about 1 to 2 hours a day, a #dot has a battery life of about ten days. It can be easily recharged thanks to its USB-C plug.
To become a #doter, simply purchase #dot’s from our website https://ShareYourGBs.com.
First of all, there is only one thing to do: open your WiFi settings.
If you see a WiFi network called “#dotdot”, then someone is sharing their internet access!
Click on the #dotdot WiFi in your settings: a “captive” page will open, inviting you to go to the “#dotdot” app. You will need to have downloaded the #dotdot application, if you haven’t already, in order to connect.
You can buy a #dot on the official website https://ShareYourGBs.com. Information about #dotdot can be found on the above website, and you can watch video tutorials on our YouTube channel (@dotdot_TV). If you need any help, just send us a message using the contact form!
Yes, because #dot’s work by pairing with the hotspot of your smartphone: they therefore only need to know the name of the hotspot and its password. The pairing procedure is there to carry out this operation once and for all.
The use of #dot’s is therefore completely independent of operators or access providers, and that is why it works in the same way in all countries.
Not at the moment. For reasons relating to the approval of the #dot box, we are currently only delivering in France. We invite you to subscribe to our newsletter to follow the latest news about our rollout.
#dotdot is a networking platform that allows sharing between those who have too many Gigabytes and those who don’t have enough or any at all, all with a mutually acceptable economic model. The principle of #dotdot is therefore co-consumption, and the resulting sharing of costs.
The alternative would have been to let the #donors freely set their selling price of Gigas, which would have left the possibility of speculation, of making #dotdot a commercial activity, which it is not.
You can’t. The #dotdot service is an intrinsically social activity, based on sharing between those who have a lot and those who have little, all with a mutually acceptable economic model. The usefulness of #dotdot is more for nomads, when you can get closer to slightly populated areas where there may be #doters.
If you want to share your GB’s, your environment must first know that there is a #doter: by pairing your #dot with your smartphone, you will create a « #dotdot » WiFi 100 meters around you, and thus be mentioned to everyone, anonymously.
One practice we see among the most zealous #doters is to pair their #dot with their smartphone, go about their business as usual, and notice at the end of the morning or day that the first connections have been made. They quickly identify the “good spots” where they can share regularly.
It is impossible to answer this question. It will depend not only on the length of time you share your GB’s, but also on how often you meet #dotee’s. No doubt it will increase over time.
The #dotdot service is an intrinsically social activity. The usefulness of #dotdot is more apparent to nomads, when you can get close to populated areas where there may be #gifted people. Pairing up with your #dot is the best way to get yourself mentioned around you!
In spirit, we designed #dotdot to enable co-consumption, allowing you to offset the cost of your subscription with the Gigas you don’t use.
As a networking platform, #dotdot is not responsible for the content visited by users of the service: in particular, #dotdot does not record any information about the content visited, and does not moderate its service in relation to this content.
However, #dotdot retains, for a period of one year, the state of #donor/#donated connections, time-stamped, based on telephone numbers (certified via the initial SMS): at the request of the police authorities, #dotdot will provide the authorities with the status of these connections. #dotdot will not be able to identify the people behind these numbers, since it does not collect this information (but the authorities will be able to do so, particularly from the operators).
Yes, that’s normal, but it’s optional. Stripe is an online payment platform typically created for online sales marketplaces. As a #donor, you have access to the “supplier” version, since you supply Gigs. Stripe has a unique format for registering suppliers, which does not take into account the specific features of #dotdot, but which unfortunately we cannot adapt: you are therefore not considered a company (information such as VAT number and other declarations are optional). For the activity, we suggest you select “Software” from the drop-down menu, and indicate “Gigas Sharing” in the box asking you to describe the activity, then indicate “dotdot.fr” for your website. The important thing is that you have been able to fill in your bank details so that we can make transfers to you if necessary. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions: [email protected].
